STREET READS 2015

To Be Launched September 2015

An interactive Choose Your Own Story adventure narrative through Brisbane Suburbs. Street Reads takes the reading experience from the traditional printed page and delivers it to smart phones and mobile devices. Through the Story City locative app, readers are guided on a trail to unravel and explore a story of their own choosing.

In previous years Street Reads has been run in the CBD and in South Bank, but this year we want to take Street Reads out into the suburbs of Brisbane, showcasing the other vibrant sections of our city.

Street Reads will showcase the work of three local writers as well as an illustrator and musician. Street Reads is presented by Story City and an initiative of the Brisbane City Council.

  1. Hi there,
Can I apply if my plan would be to focus on an area in the Brisbane region but under the jurisdiction of another council. For example, the Moreton Bay region. Or does it specifically have to be a suburb within the Brisbane City Council region?
    Thanks,
    Rachelle

Hey guys, I’ve lived in Brisbane my whole life but am moving to Sydney in June. Should I still apply or do I need to live locally to carry out the work?

      Hey Steve,

If you were moving in July I would say ‘go for it!’ but to be able to get through to round 2 of the applications you have to attend a workshop somewhere in the week of the 8th-15th of June and then you need to be in Brisbane the week after to go on a couple of hour walk with myself and the artist and musician to pick/finalise your locations. Which takes us to the end of June. It is also then super helpful for you to be able to walk around as you’re writing (even though we take lots of photos, sometimes you just have to check in the final stages that you’ve captured a location correctly).

We had one of our writers move to Scotland in August last year but that still gave us all the time we needed to do the initial writing. Unfortunately I think your deadline may be too tight, I’m so sorry…

Hopefully we’ll do one in Sydney (and if you know anyone to connect us to please let us know! It will happen faster that way!)

      Warmly,

      Emily
